In 1995, Dazhou reported the first case of HIV infection. Since then, a small number of HIV-infected persons were found among drug users and blood donors. A large-scale survey of HIV-infected persons in Dazhu County by the end of 2001 was conducted in a special survey. In order to systematically observe the prevalence of HIV infection in high-risk populations in Dazhou and to explore the method of HIV sentinel surveillance in commercial sex workers, a pilot monitoring of HIV sentinel surveillance among community sex workers was conducted at 002-12.
