任何温度高于绝对零度的物体都会辐射出红外线,其辐射出红外线的波长取决于普朗克公式。红外热象仪一般都工作在一定的波长范围内,随着目标温度的变化,其辐射出总的红外能量亦发生变化,反映到热象仪中,则所输出的视频信号的幅度发生了变化,利用这种视频信号幅度的变化,我们可以得到被测目标的温度。在热象仪中,探测器所输出视频信号的幅度与下述因素有关:
