1997年11月19~20日,在日本岐阜县岐阜市长野川国际会场召开了世界河流会议,会议的议题是“从长野川看世界——人与河流共存”。为了解决世界各国河流的洪水和枯水等有关问题,使其与环境协调、让河流和流域治理持续发展的经验与智慧为人类共有,第一次召开了世界河流会议。来自15个国家的1151名代表参加了会议,远远超出了最初预计的800名代表的人数。在开幕式上东京大学名誉教授木村尚三郎
From November 19 to November 20, 1997, the World Rivers Conference was held at the Nagano River International Conference Center in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The theme of the conference was to “see the world from Nagano River - the coexistence of man and river.” For the first time, the World Rivers Conference was held in order to solve the problems related to floods and low flows of rivers in all countries in the world and coordinate with the environment so that the experiences and wisdom of sustainable development of rivers and river basins are shared by all. The 1151 delegates from 15 countries attended the meeting well beyond the initial estimate of 800 delegates. At the opening ceremony, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo, Kimura Saburo
