10月24日中科院副院长江绵恒一行到中科院新疆分院考察工作,并就新疆物理所和化学所的整合发表了意见。江绵恒副院长听取新疆分院院长周俊林对新疆分院的工作和新疆物理所同新疆化学所整合的初步设想的汇报后高兴地说,在这次五中全会上专门讲了新疆的问题,说明党中央对新疆非常重视。新疆在国家的地位不仅是民族地区发展的问题,而新疆的稳定和发展对全国有着举足轻重的作用。新疆资源丰富,如后备可耕地面积、矿产种类均在全国占很大比重,所以新疆的发展在全国发展战略中,作用非常重要。新疆起着西部大开发的桥头堡作用和前沿发展平台的作用,我们要给予足够的重视。从科学院的角度来讲和对西部大开发角度来讲,都应该对新疆给予足够的重视。
