武戟是广州执信中学高一学生。2001年7月18日至8月12日,他在广东白云通用航空有限公司设于阳江的训练基地接受驾驶塞纳斯172型飞机飞行训练,并以优异的成绩完成所有科目和严格的飞行考试,获得了国际民航协会颁发的结业证书;2001年国庆长假,武戟又参加了直升飞机培训,并通过考试拿到结业证书。这个会开两种飞机的少年当时只有14岁,是目前中国年龄最小的飞行员。按有关规定,武戟年满17岁即可真接换领两个飞机驾驶执照。
