Intel has been a very important player in enterprise-class applications and has always been proud of it. Now it begins to fulfill its promise, targeting the enterprise application market. Considering what happened last month, Intel processors set the record for the fastest single-system operation. The Xeon processor-based system, whose TPC-C test data was late by 93,900, is only 10% smaller than the Compaq AlphaServer performance record. The latter has significantly more processors than the former and runs on a cluster system architecture that supports 8-way systems. TPC-C is the Transaction Processing Performance Council (transaction performance council) proposed test performance indicators.
