This thesis focused on the synthesis of late transition (nickel) metal complexes.Upon activation with Al-based co-catalyst, their catalytic behaviors were investigated and discussed in detail. This thesis contains two parts.Part Ⅰ: The progress of polyolefins and new catalysts used in ethylenepolymerization/oligomerization is summarized.Part Ⅱ: A series of 1-[4-(fluorenyl)-2,6-dimethylphenylimino)]-2-arylimino acenaphthyl nickelcomplexes were synthesized and characterized. From single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, the complex C5 has distorted trigonal pyramidal geometry.Upon activation with co-catalysts such as methylaluminoxame (MAO) and ethylaluminumsesquichloride (EASC), though complexes exhibited catalytic activities in the presence of EASC co-catalyst up to 8.41 × 106 g of PE (mol of Ni)-1h-1 towards ethylene polymerization. The resulted polyethylene produced high molecular weights and along with controlled branches.
