This study was designed to optimum extraction conditions of rosmarinic acid from leaves of Perilllafrutescens.The leaves of P.frutescens,which is a traditional medicinal herb,have been used in some Asian countries to treat various diseases.Extraction efficiency was affected by extraction process (refluxed and soaking),the type of solvent (water,ethanol and methanol),solvent-water ratio (100,90,80,70 and 60% ethanol) and extraction time (6,12,24 and 36hr).The extracts were screened for their possible active ingredients by levels of total phenolic and flavonoid.
