Breast cancer still imposes significant healthcare burden on women worldwide, underscoring the need to develop new ways for earlier detection and accurate classification, Mammography is still the benchmark for screening and diagnosis of breast disease.Biomarkers will complement mammography because of the potential to enable earlier detection and accurate differentiation between non-cancerous and cancerous breast lesions.Using a microarray with approximately 20,000 probes we studied the variation in gene expression in the blood of 185 informed and consented female donors, classified as normal (n=30), invasive breast cancer (n=84) and benign breast lesions (n=71).After normalization across all the arrays, differential gene expression was assessed using multiple bioinformatics tools.
