Oncolytic virotherapy is a rapidly developing field whereby live viruses are used to target and destroy cancer cells selectively while leaving normal host cells intact.A wide range of viruses are currently under investigation for their oncolytic effects, one of which is Coxsackievirus A21 (CVA21).CVA21 is a naturally occurring common-cold virus that belongs to the family Picornaviridae.The 7.4kb virus genome consists of a single positive sense strand of RNA that is wrapped in a protein coat.CVA21 viral particles are non-enveloped and approximately 28 nm in diameter.
