Side-chain liquid crystalline polymers(SCLCPs)have attracted enormous attention due to their potential application in electro-optic technology. The phase behaviors of SCLCPs depend on variety of factors including backbones, flexible spacers, mesogens and terminal substituents.Specifically, anisotropic interaction between mesogenic groups plays an important role in determining the self-assembled morphologies. For example, polymers containing rod-like mesogens tend to form smectic phase, while the discotic mesogens is favor of forming columnar phase.Ringsdorf and Percec firstly introduced the hemiphasimidic mesogens to polymer backbones and found the length of the alkyl tail had great influence on the liquid-phase behaviors.Namely, short alkyl tails result in smectic phase, and long alkyl groups favor the formation of columnar phase.
