The silkworm,Bombyx mori,is the economically important insect domesticated more than 5000 years. Most economic traits of silkworm attentioned by the breeders are quantitative traits. The QTL mapping has always been the important method to study the genetic architecture of the quantitative traits. However, the widely used QTL models are not well compatible with the silkworm, because of ignoring the achiasmata and gender effect. We proposed a composited method here which is suitable for the QTL mapping in silkworm.By mapping the QTL for cocoon shell weight (CSW) for example,we demonstrated the effectiveness of this method. In the CSW mapping process, only 43 markers were used,7 loci or chromosomes were yet detected, which is more than that in the previous studies, and the loci on the 1st and the 11st chromosome are the two major effect loci explaining 32.83% and 15.15% phenotype variance, respectively. We also detected an epistasis between the locus on the 11st and the 22nd chromosome. All the mentioned mapping results showed that this method is more convenient and powerful when map QTL in silkworm. And the proposed method may facilitate the molecular mechanism illustration of the quantitative traits and the silkworm molecular breeding.Additionally it may also provide some inspiration for the QTL mapping method development in other species with the special characteristics.
