Effect of sulfur with different chemical forms on absorption of mercury in B.gymnorrhiza seedlings

  Sulfur(S)plays a key role in Hg biogeochemical cycles.To understand effect of S with different chemical forms on absorption of Hg in mangrove plant,potting experiment was conducted with Bruguiera gymnorhiza(L.)Lamk seedling under Hg-S stress.The potting soil was taken from a farmland with Hg pollution by industry.Sulfur(S0),sodium sulfate(Na2SO4),and sodium sulfide(Na2S)were added in the soil.Contents of total mercury(THg),methylmercury(MeHg)and sulfur in the different organs of B.gymnorrhiza were determined.The results showed as follows:(1)Three different sulfur compounds increased the capability of Hg absorption in stem,while situation in root and leaf was more complicated and irregular;(2)Sulfur can enhance concentration of MeHg,especially in root of B.gymnorrhiza;(3)There was a significant positive correlation between sulfur content and Hg,MeHg content in the roots(p<0.01).On the contrary,correlation between sulfur content and mercury content in aerial parts of stems and leaves was not significant(p> 0.05).
