In situ investigation on ZnFe2O4 formingmechanism by microcalorimetry

  Stoichiometric ZnFe2O4 magnetic nanocrystal clusters(MNCs)with an average diameter of 127 nm have been successfully synthesized by using a one-step solvothermal method without any additives.The ZnFe2O4 is superparamagnetic,and the saturation magnetization is higher than that reported in references.Power-time curves for the reaction were in situ determined from room temperature to about 473.15 K by a microcalorimeter(RD496-2000),in which different exothermic peaks can be found and solid samples were obtained at various temperatures,such as 376.15,307.15,332.15,and 360.15 K.Corresponding to these exothermic peaks,NaNO3,α-(Fe,Zn)OOH,α-Fe2O3,Fe3O4,and ZnFe2O4 were synthesized based on various characterization techniques.A possible mechanism for the stoichiometric ZnFe2O4 formation was proposed.
