The oxidation of pyrroles usually leads to uncontrolled polymerization and decomposition.To overcome this problem, the controlled oxidation of substituted pyrroles with Dess-Martin periodinanehas been developed.[1] This strategy yields a range of 5-aroyloxypyrrolidinones.We have carried out an investigation into substrate scope and the application towards synthesis will be presented.The mechanism for this transformation will also be discussed.
