Earth sensors are widely used in spacecraft for attitude determination. It has a very large field of view (FOV)(>120°)and relatively low accuracy while being used in aircrafts around orbit.A triple-FOV infrared earth sensor is proposed in this paper. It uses three pieces of infrared detectors at 14 ~ 16μm, which are used to sense horizontal circle by detecting infrared light emitted by the Earth. Then, the geocentric vector can be obtained.Taking aircrafts in 70~ 100km orbit altitude as an example, the mathematic model is established and the system accuracy is simulated. The results show that the altitude measurement accuracy is better than 100m and the angle measurement error is about 3.8".Based on the above analysis, a prototype is built and tested in laboratory. The test results show that it can meet the accuracy requirements. Thus, the triple-FOV earth sensor can provide high-precision position information achieve autonomous navigation.
