Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is arguably the deadliest form of breast cancer known.IBC is hallmarked by florid lymphovascular invasion (LVI) of tumor emboli in the dermal lymphatics. Thus, the progression of IBC is rapid and results in nearly 100% of women having lymph node involvement and nearly 1/3 of women have gross distant metastases at the time of diagnosis. We identified RhoC GTPase as a key mediator of IBC metastasis. In our study of the role of RhoC GTPase in IBC metastasis we have found that Akt has a role as an upstream regulator of RhoC.Specifically, RhoC GTPase is a substrate for Akt being phosphorylated at an Akt consensus site on serine 73.
