Foraging efficiency of ‘sit-and-wait’ predators is an important influence on spiders fitness. It is indicated that the decision of how long to stay in a foraging patch before moving to another patch will affect energy intake rates and many contribute to fitness.Chemical cues,well-known to be important components of courtship communication for many species of spiders, have scarcely been demonstrated to be an important components of foraging decisions with respect to patch residence time.
