There are no accepted standard definitions for intractable epilepsy.Furthermore, the surgical inclusion criteria for those with refractory epilepsy are diverse and vary significantly depending on the institution or epilepsy program.There is also significant variation in inclusion criteria used between adult and pediatric epileptologists/neurologists.Some of the used variables to define intractable epilepsy are the number of AEDs, the length of duration of epilepsy and the frequency and severity of seizures.
