The Nek family of protein kinases regulate the cell mitosis and cilium formation in G0.Its dysfunction leads to aberrant cell cycle and defects in the formation and function of cilia,resulting in human diseases.The function of Nek1 is required for cilium formation and function in the mouse kidney and is important for the maintenance of genomic stability.
