During tumor progression, tumor cells foster a tolerant microenvironment and the activation of many immunosuppressive mechanisms that act in concert to counteract effective immune responses. Therefore, to accomplish cancer immune eradication, tumor-induced immunosuppression must be overcome. We demonstrate that CD73 is widely expressed on many tumor cell lines and upregulated in cancerous tissues with active enzymatic activity.Notably, CD73 expression in malignant cancer patients is closely associated with poor immune status of tumor infiltrating effector T cells.
