Content: Myxococcus xanthus displays social (S) gliding motility, a form of surface locomotion powered by the retraction of the type Ⅳ pilus or pili (T4P).Besides T4P, S motility requires exopolysaccharides (EPS) which are postulated to trigger T4P retraction in M.xanthus.
