Lead is being used extensively as anode material for zinc electrowinning from zinc-sulphate solutions.It was reported that the addition of Co to the electrolyte solution or to the lead alloy in copper electrowinning, will lead to the beneficial effects including reduced rates of corrosion of the anodes, lower over potential for the evolution of oxygen,and reduced contamination of the copper cathodes.In zinc electrowinning, the presence of cobalt has the first two effects.If cobalt ions present in the electrolyte, because of the relatively high potential needed for zinc reduction, they can contaminate the deposited zinc.
