Thiosulfate leaching with RIP is an alternative to cyanidation + CIP for recovering gold from ores.However there are a number of issues with the eluents used to strip the gold from the resin, and therefore research has focused on developing new elution technologies.This presentation will outline a new elution system based on the concept of synergistic ion exchange.The synergistic system utilises a base eluent with an additive that significantly improves the gold elution efficiency, and hence weaker eluents such as chloride can be used.The advantages of the new process include: a) the return of chloride loaded resin to the adsorption circuit is likely to be less problematic than nitrate; and b) chloride is significantly cheaper and more stable than the other systems, particularly trithionate.
