White light-emitting diodes(LEDs)are expected to widely replace current fluorescence lamps in the near future by further increasing their color rendering index and lowering the production cost. Most white LEDs in production today are made of a blue GaN chip covered by a yellowish YAG: Ce phosphor coating. Here,we show a technological improvement of the yellowish YAG: Ce phosphor by fine adjustment of particle morphology and sintering process, where white LEDs with higher color rending index are achieved compared to the commercial phosphors used LEDs.
