  Using the sol-gel method, the Fe2O3 coated by silica nanocomposites with the ferric citrate as iron raw was synthesized.The clear sols were gelated at room temperature and then treated at 60 ℃ in vacuum to get dry gels, which were characterized bythermogravimetric analysis (TG).Finally, the mesoporous Fe2O3/SiO2 nanoparticles were obtained by the calciner at 400 ℃ for 3h.The structural and properties of synthesized particles were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy(FT-IR),and N2 adsorption-desorption techniques,which reveal that the iron active centers are successfully incorporated into the silica framework with particles size about 50nm and a large pore diameter(30-45nm).The catalytic activity of nanocatalysts has been tested in the synthesis diphenylmethane by Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction.Its found that the catalysts exhibit an excellent activity with 100% conversion ofbenzyl chloride and relatively higher selectivity to diphenylmethane, and can be reused multiple times.
