Preparation of Electrochemically Active Cathode Material using PVP Composite Li2S for Lithium-Sulfur

  A novel Li2S-C composite for Li-S battery cathode material was prepared by using PVP as carbon source to coat Li2S.The effects of mass ratios (mpvp∶mLi2S=0.5, 1, 1.5, 2), evaporation temperature(90, 110, 130, 150 ℃), carbonization temperatures (500, 700, 900 ℃) on the electrochemical performance of Li2S-C composite were also studied.The structure and morphology of the composite cathode materials were characterized by transmission electron microscope and X-Ray Diffraction.The electrochemical performances of the Li2S-C composite were determined by charge-discharge test, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.The results indicate thatthe cathode material with excellent electrochemical performance was obtained with mpvp∶mLi2S=1∶1, evaporation temperature at 150 ℃ and carbonization temperatures at 900 ℃.Andthe sampledelivers an initial discharge capacity of 1024.8mAhg-1 at the current density of 0.05C.
