Intracellular Ca2+ signaling regulates numerous cell functions including contraction,secretion, and immune responses.There are many potential molecular targets for drug development in conjunction with the cell functions regulated by Ca2+ signals.For example, pharmacological interference with the Ca2+ signaling in the heart and blood vessels by calcium antagonists has been utilized for the treatment of hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases.
