The methodology described by Vassallo et al.in "An environmental accounting model to assess the value of natural capital in marine protected areas" was applied to the Portofino and Cinque Terre MPAs (Liguria Region,NW Italy). For the sake of brevity only Portofino case study is here reported. The M PA occupies a total surface of 363 ha and is subdivided in zones with different protection degree.Habitats composing the MPA bottom have been identified according to RAC-SPA classification. The calculation of biomass stocked in each habitat represents the basis for the assessment of MPA natural capital value. From biomasses the trophic network of each habitat was modelled allowing to obtain the values of productivity amounts that both generated the biomass and keep annual fluxes.
