A Schiff base ligand N-(2-hydroxylacetophenone)-3-oxapentane-l,5-diamine (HL) and its Cu coordination polymer, [Cu(L)(NO3)]n, have been synthesized and characterized by physic-chemical and spectroscopic methods. The [Cu(L)(NO3)]n is revealed as a 1:1 (Cu:L) polymer, in which copper ion is six-coordinated with the coordination surround of distorted octahedral geometry. The polymer has a 1D infinite chain structure in which copper ions are bridged by single nitrate. Antioxidant assay in vitro shows the Cu (II) complex possesses significant antioxidant activities.
