  近年来,肥胖症作为全球性的慢性疾病,已经成为威胁人类健康的主要杀手之一.20年前,Friedman和同事首次发现瘦素,是代谢领域乃至整个生物学界具有里程碑意义的突破.当时人们认为,瘦素的发现打开了抗击肥胖的希望之门,但是随后的临床实验却证明,直接服用瘦素对肥胖症患者没有明显的疗效.不同于以往的单分子靶标筛选法,刘教授首次将CMAP引入到瘦素增敏剂的研究领域.内质网应激被证明是造成肥胖机体下丘脑瘦素抵抗和食欲难以控制的主要诱因之一.因为内质网应激由系统性紊乱引起,通过一个点的抑制或激活是不能够有效解决问题的.刘博士研究证明通过瘦素和增敏剂联合治疗,是一条很有希望的抗击肥胖症的方向.刘博士研究的成果之一——雷公藤红素,是从我国传统中药材雷公藤中提取的小分子单体;他的研究,对开发我国中药材宝库,推进中药材现代化研究有特殊意义.
