  The snub-nosed monkey genus Rhinopithecus include five closely related species distributed across altitudinal gradients from 800 to 4,500m.R.bieti,R.roxellana,and R.strykeri evolved high altitude,while R.brelichia and R.avunculusinhabit lowland regions.We report de novo whole-genome sequence of R.bieti and genomic sequences of other snub-nosed monkeys.Eight common substitutions in sixgenes of three high-altitude snub-nosed monkeys were found,which are related to lung function,DNA repair,and angiogenesis.Functional assays showed CDT1(p.Ala537Val)is more resistant to UV irradiation,and RNASE4(p.Asn89Lys and p.Thr128Ile)has enhanced ability of inducing endothelia tube formation.Genomic scans in R.bieti and R.roxellana populations identified overlapped genes between populations and population-specific genes involved in DNA repair,heart and vascular development,hypoxia response,energy metabolism,and angiogenesis.These results offer valuable insights into the non-human primate adaptive mechanism to high-altitude in the snub-nosed monkeys.
