A procedure for the determination of organophosphorous pesticides (OPPs) in cider was developed using the cloud point extraction of nonionic surfactant (PEG 4000) coupled with back-extraction prior to Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS) analysis. The parameters and variables that affect the extraction were investigated.Under optimum conditions: a solution containing 300 gL-1 polyethylene glycol 4000 (PEG 4000) and Na2SO4 for the extraction of the OPPs, the coacervation phase was obtained by back extraction with hexane. The upper hexane solution was vortex mixed simply for further cleanup for automatic injection.A preconcentration factor of 40 was obtained for these 45 pesticides.Using this method, we found that carbofuran residues could be determined with recoveries ranging from 71.2% to 116.9%, relative standard deviations (RSD) in the range of 1.2% to 14.7% for three levels, and the limits of quantification (LOQ) together with the limits the detection (LOD) were in the range of 0.02 to 3.00 and 0.01 to 0.91 μgkg-1 in cider, respectively.
