Plant Growth Regulating Activity of Peptide Mimics

  Peptide pesticide has been widely studied because of its safety and low toxicity.With the application of peptide,its promoting effects to plants have been reported[1].These studies provide a possibility for the application of peptide products in the regulation of plant germination,rooting and growth.In the previous study,our laboratory has predicted the plant growth regulating function of the allatostatin and insect kinins analogs by the toxicity and activity prediction software and database[2].Therefore,in this paper,peptide mimics P5 and Ⅳ-3,which were found with good insecticidal activity in the early stage,were synthesized using the Fmoc-synthesis method.Their preliminary activities on plant growth regulation were studied by measuring root length,and fresh weight increase.The Arabidopsis thaliana and maize(Zea mays L)were selected as the representative plant of dicotyledon and monocotyledon.The results show that the compound P5 and Ⅳ-3 could promote the growth of maize root in the concentration range of 0.001~0.01mg·L-1,which means the effective concentration reached nmol level.Also,P5 was able to promote the root growth of Arabidopsis thaliana at the concentration of 0.1mg·L-1.However,at lower or higher concentrations,both peptide mimics have inhibitory effects on root growth.In addition,the two peptide mimics increase the fresh weight,but its shows different variation tendency.Thus,it can be surmised that the peptide mimics have effect on the number of lateral roots growing and the stout degree.
