The stereocomplex crystals (SC) formed in poly(L-lactide)/poly(D-lactide) (PLLA/PDLA) mixture were reported to have excellent mechanical properties [1-2] in complex fibers or solution-casting films compared with PLA α-crystals, considering the higher melting temperature (~ 230 ℃) than a-crystals (~ 170 ℃).Copious investigations were conducted related to the complicated crystallization behavior of the PLLA/PDLA mixture, focusing on the nucleating effect of SC in PLLA-rich blends, [3] or competitive crystallization between SC and α-crystals.For the blend with high molecular weight, usually both SC and a-crystals were competitively formed resulting in the suppressed crystallization of SC, which is undesirable for the PLA product.Shear flow, generally existing in the practical processing, are profoundly influence the crystallization behaviors in the semi-crystallized polymers.It can apparently enhance the crystallization rate, induce various morphologies and effectively monitor the phase content in polymorphic polymers.Recently, Matsuba et al.[4]illustrated that the enhanced SC nucleation density and the shorter induction time were observed upon applying a shear force at 200 ℃ which was higher than the melting point of a-crystals (Tm,a).However, the competitive crystallization between SC and α-crystals under shear flow was not involved.
