  Nowadays,as an advanced technology computer aided design has been applied in many areas especially the complicated ones.Many commercial CAD platform software such as UG,CATIA,Pro/E,Solid-works and Solid-edge are playing a more and more important role in the fierce competition in manufacturing domain,whereas current product design process by computer aided design is inefficient,unintelligent and time wasting,which relies on man-machine interaction badly and is hard to inherit the design experience and knowledge.In this paper,a knowledge-based intelligent die design system for automotive panels is developed by UG software platform,which is based on abundance engineering knowledge of automotive panel die design.The main components and major parts design module of the system is proposed according to the description of the working flow and principle.Also the key technology such as knowledge acquisition,knowledge presentation,inference engine,and knowledge management are discussed in detail.The inference engine in the intelligent CAD system is integrated with fuzzy deducing and case based design-CBD,which contains a case base with plenty of engineering cases.It makes the system have the ability to accomplish the automotive panel die design solution automatically according to the customer requirement and engineering rules through comparing the destination solution with the existed cases with fuzzy decision and intelligent design.The engineering knowledge is classified in KBE system,which is also integrated with figure parameter modeling,CAD,engineering knowledge and experience.Finally,a case study of the panel die design of car trunk in the system is implemented,which illustrate working process,working principle,implement method and practicability of the system,and validates the advanced design conception proposed in this paper.
