Rab proteins are key regulators of cellular trafficking in eukaryotic cells.Rab5 and Rab7 are endocytic Rab proteins functioning in modules to regulate vesicle trafficking from endosomes to lysosomes (vacuoles in yeast).Vps21 and Ypt7 are the homologues of Rab5 and Rab7 in yeast, respectively.Additional to their roles in vesicle trafficking, Ypt7 was known to regulate the fusion of mature autophagosomes with vacuoles in autophagy.Our recent study elucidated that Vps21 endocytic module also regulate autophagy with GFP-Atg8 accumulation as a cluster outside the vacuole in deletion mutants under starvation conditions.We are interested to know the step(s) and regulation mechanism of Vps21 in autophagy through cellular and biochemical methods in the future experiments.The results will contribute to the understanding of endocytic Rab proteins in autophagy in yeast.
