The C.elegans p62 homolog, SQST-1, is selectively removed by autophagy.In wild type animals, SQST-1 is weakly expressed and diffusely localized in thecytoplasm.In autophagy mutants, levels of SQST-1 are dramatically elevated and SQST-1 accumulates into numerous aggregates.To understand how autophagy activity is regulated, we performed genetic screens to isolate mutants that suppress the accumulation of SQST-1 aggregates in hypomorphic or null mutants of autophagy genes.Here we summarize our screens foratg-7, atg-2, atg-9, epg-5 and epg-7 mutants.Our pioneer screens failed to identify suppressors of epg-9/Atg101 and epg-8/Atg14.
