Lignocellulosic material is an alternative to traditional food ingredients,utilization of wood as feedstock to bioconvesion butanol fuel not only can reduce the production cost,aslo can enlarge the raw material supply.In this paper,butanol fermentation by Clostridium saccharobutylicum of steam-exploded poplar wood hydrolysates was investigated.In steam-exploded hydrolysates,the highest butanol and ABE(Acetone–butanol–ethanol)yields reached 6.88 and 9.53 g/L,respectively,amount to 68.8g butanol and 95.3g ABE/kg poplar wood were achieved when the whole slurry from the pretreatment was used.Furthermore,direct fermentation of poplar wood hydrolysates with no any additive or with some additive mixed carbon source to butanol was studied,respectively.Desired results were obtained at the same time,the former the production of butanol and ABE reached 4.8 and 6.6 g/L; the latter butanol and ABE yield reached 7.28 and 10.18 g/L.These results indicate that using poplar wood fiber fermentation to produce butanol fuel is potential.
