Metabolomics is the systematic study of small molecules or metabolites that are the end products of specific cellular processes in a biological cell, tissue, organ or organism. With emerging technologies in mass spectrometry and associated bioinformatics, thousands of metabolites could be quantitatively measured and processed.Advanced metabolomics techniques including global metabolite profiling, metabolomic flux and data treatment will be introduced and discussed in this workshop. While genomics often provided only risk of metabolic disease, metabolomics provides a snapshot of the current state of disease and actionable information to precise clinical decision-making and metabolic research. In this study, metabolomics response to exercise in db/db Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus(T2DM)mice will be shown. The results from skeletal muscle samples showed that exercise might induce more efficient elimination of branched-chain amino acids(BCAAs)to improve insulin resistance.Besides, the results from liver samples indicated that physical activity might also exert positive regulatory effect in accelerating cholesterol catabolism through bile acid metabolism pathway to improve insulin resistance that induced by T2DM.
