Molecular imprinted polymers (MIPs) are smart materials,which have remarkable recognition properties for their template.In recent decades,molecular imprinting technique has received considerable attention due to the potential appfications in separation,catalysis,drug release,and chemical sensors.In this study a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensor coated with MIP is designed for improving the sensitivity and selectivity for specific volatile organic components (VOCs) such as benzene,toluene,and xylene.Various MIPs are synthesized using different templates.Benzoic acid (BA) and toluic acid (TA) isomers have been used as non-covalent bound templates in order to generate selective cavities for specific VOCs in the polymer matrix.The MIPs are immobilized on the QCM surface using a poly(isobutylene) layer.The selective behaviors of the MIPs are studied by their adsorption and desorption responses.Furthermore the effect of template and the content of a crossliker(1,4-divinlybenzene) on the sensor performance has been rigorously investigated.From the results,MIPs are promising for the development of selective piezoelectric sensors for VOCs.
