Background Resistant hypertension (HTN) is a serious global health issue. It has been estimated that it may affect 20%to 30% of the HTN population.Only about 30% of these patients are actually adequately controlled according to the target BP.A critical factor in resistant HTN is the hyperactivity of the sympathetic nervous system.Recent research could show that catheter-based renal sympathetic denervation is effective in BP lowering in patients with resistant hypertension.
