Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are a kind of hepatotoxic alkaloids, which widely exist in plants.Cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A mediates metabolic activation of PAs, and the electrophilic products can cause cytotoxicity by binding with proteins or nucleic acids.Fetal adrenal gland can synthesize and secrete glucocorticoids (GC), which plays an important role in fetal development. The aim of this study is to investigate the developmental toxicity and dysfunction of fetal adrenal gland in rats induced by prenatal exposure to PAs.Pregnant rats were administrated with 20 mg/(kg·d) retrorsine (Ret) or monocrotaline (Mct) from gestation day (GD) 9 to 20, and then sacrificed to collect serum and adrenal.
