The ophiobolins are a group of sesterterpenes with novel structures of a tricyclic [5· 8 · 5] ring system.And they showed a broad spectrum of inhibitory activity against nematodes, fungi and bacteria, and cytotoxic activity against cancer cells.During our study on symbiotic relationship between zoanthus and its related microorganisms, an endophytic fungus was isolated from Zoanthus sp.and identified as Aspergillus sp.This genus fungus has been studied for several decades, and it has been reported to produce a large variety of extrolites, including secondary metabolites, acids, and proteins and extracellular enzymes.However, until now, only four sesterterpenes of ophiobolins G (3), H (4), K (5) and 6-epi-ophiobolin K (6), which were isolated from the fungus of Aspergillus sp., were reported.
