Cytokines,hormones,and growth factors in biological fluids are critical factors (biomarkers) in the manifestation and treatment of numerous disorders.Measurement of these multiple analytes in patient sera has been shown to have a strong correlation to clinical data including disease activity,diagnosis,and therapeutic response.Traditional ELISA methods for measuring these factors are costly,time-consuming and require large volumes of valuable samples for measuring multiple analytes.It is,therefore,difficult to obtain a systematic profile of multiple "biomarkers" involved in any specific disease state.This seminar will review the advantages of Multiplexing to measure multiple analytes in one small volume serum sample using the Luminex xMAP technology.In addition,the presentation reports on the developments and results achieved with a variety of diseases in human,non-human primate,mouse,rat and canine species specific screening panels.Disease panels that will be discussed include endocrine/metabolic diseases,cardiovascular,inflammation,and cell signaling.
