　　p-rational fields are number fields whose maximal pro-p abelian extension unramified outside places over p is of minimal possible rank 1+r2,with r2 the number of conjugate pairs of complex embeddings.We discuss various properties of p-rational fields,with emphasis on its relation with Iwasawa theory.
