It is widely worried that radioactive materials from nuclear accidents or nuclear weapon tests affect ecosystems. In cropland, Cs is absorbed rather rapidly to clay minerals and, once absorbed, is difficult to be taken up by organism. On the other hand, in forests, Cs is taken up effectively by mushrooms and transported to animals and plants through the food chain, thus radiocesium remains bioactive and causes long-term pollution of forest ecosystems.
