According simulation results of a set of test cases, two kinds of half-screen diffraction theories,Kirchhoff half-screen diffraction theory and 3D Gaussian Beams Summation(GBS)diffraction method are compared. The results show that Kirchhoff half-screen diffraction theory is a fast and efficient analysis method but it only suitable for the diffraction of a Gaussian beam with a circular spot size incident upon a half-screen.GBS diffraction method breaks through the limits and considers the diffraction of a general astigmatic Gaussian beam(GB)impinging arbitrarily close to the edge at an arbitrary orientation. In this method, the diffracted field is expressed as a sum of diffracted GBs emerging from a discrete set of points and directions along the edge axis. However,it shows that GBS is a time consuming method.
