Currently bottled water is usually sterilized by ozone,which can oxidizes Bromide in water to Bromate designated to be 2b potential carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).Although various controlling measures are adopted,it still fail to control Bromate content into the international standard.Based on the reasons above,higher requirement is put forward for water enterprises,it is necessary to adopt new technology to substitute ozone sterilization technology to reduce Bromate content.Pulsed electric field (PEF) is a novel non-thermal food processing technology developed in the past 3 to 4 decades,which inactivates microorganisms by instantaneous voltage in liquid food.Not only it has good sterilization effect,but also it is impossible to generate Bromate after treatment.When the water that contained 70.74mg/L Bromine ions was treated by 10.02 mg/L ozone and 30kWcm PEF respectively,10.98 mg/L Bromate was generated in the former,but nothing in the latter.
