The cytogenetic studies on the hybrid and backcross progenies of S.officinarum L.and Erianthus Arundinaceus showed that the somatic chromosomes number of Erianthus Hainan 92-105 and Hainan92-77 were 2n =60 =60sm,belonging to 1A type.YC 01-21 was 2n =104 =100m +4sm,belonging to 2C type.The other six tested clones belonging to 2B type of chromosome.The progeny YC96-66 and YC96-40 originated from Badila (female parent,2n =80 =70m + 10sm) with Erianthus (Hainan92-105 and Hainan92-77 as male parent) were 2n =70 =68m + 2sm,following the crossing law of n + n;The crossing between YC96-66 (female parent) and CP84-1198 (male parent,2n =120 =114m + 6sm) also followed the same genetic law and the somatic chromosome number of their progeny,YC01-3,was 2n =105 =95m + 10sm.While chromosome genetic was different in the crossing between YC96-40 (female parent) and CP84-1198 (male parent,2n =120 =114m +6sm).YC01-21 and YC 01-36 were the progenies of this cross.YC 01-21 was 2n =104 =100m + 4sm,followed the same genetic law of n + n.YC 01-36 was 132,was generated by 2n + n.It is suggested that the generation of chromosome was very complex in BC1.The difference between clones in chromosome number was up to 28.Beside n + n,the generation of chromosome may be 2n + n..
